Asia in Focus Episode 2: Our Strategic Alliance Ecosystem
A six-part video series on Lombard Odier's presence and plans in Asia
Since 2015, Lombard Odier has pioneered its unique Strategic Alliance model in Asia, laying the foundation of its Ecosystem of Strategic Alliances with well-reputed financial institutions in the region. This unique model is one of its strategic pillars, allowing the bank to expand its footprint across Asia by combining Lombard Odier's investment and family services expertise amassed over 200 years, and leveraging the strong knowledge and networks of local financial institutions.
Vincent Magnenat, Lombard Odier's Limited Partner and Asia CEO, shares more in the video below, on the reasons behind this unique Strategic Alliance model, and how he sees this as a triple win for Lombard Odier, local financial institutions in the region, and for all clients.
Future of private banking in Asia: both onshore and offshore
In Asia, we are seeing a very clear upward trajectory in the demand and appetite for access to global markets and tailored wealth management and family office services. We also believe that a mix of both onshore and offshore services will be a defining feature of private banking in Asia. Aside from the emerging trend in favour of onshore activities in Asia, a majority of the wealthy population's assets are managed by the region's local banks and financial institutions
At Lombard Odier, we believe that a local bank, through our support and access to global expertise, will present major opportunities for clients to invest and grow their wealth. Thus, aside from managing wealth from our offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo, we have also formed Strategic Alliances with local financial institutions in the region, to offer local, quality services and expertise onshore.
Forging friendship with the local financial institutions
Through this Ecosystem and close partnerships with six local financial institutions in the region, namely Kasikornbank Private Banking in Thailand, Indonesia's Mandiri Private, Mizuho Securities (Singapore), Taipei Fubon Bank, UnionBank Private Banking in the Philippines, and JBWere in Australia – we are able to offer a bespoke level of expertise that is tailored to meet our clients' global investment and private banking needs.
With this model, we forge friendships with local financial institutions that benefit us. We are able to holistically serve the wealth management needs of entrepreneurs and families in Asia onshore by allowing the local financial institutions to access Lombard Odier's global investment and family services expertise, and we can leverage their local network and knowledge.
The Ecosystem: a winning model
We believe that our Strategic Alliance model is mature and we are entering a new phase where we form an Ecosystem to provide access to opportunities and solutions for our Strategic Alliances, Lombard Odier and all of our clients.
This Ecosystem allows a transfer of knowledge via combined research and events, allowing clients to not only leverage on Lombard Odier's global investment and family services expertise, but to also tap into the wider Strategic Alliance network and local expertise that Lombard Odier has developed in the region.
Through this model, private clients can engage in private banking services with a familiar, local financial institution and at the same time, gain access to a plethora of regional options through the Ecosystem, offering a gateway to local investment opportunities.
